Q1: Who are the coaches at Savage Boxing Academy?
A: Our head coach and owner is Minuen May. Our coaching team also includes Coach Dennis McKinney, Coach Kevin Timmons, and Coach Erin Johnston. All coaches bring years of boxing experience and a passion for teaching.
Q2: What is your coaching style?
A: We focus on technique-first training while also emphasizing conditioning, competitive fight preparation, and a beginner-friendly approach for all fitness levels.
Q3: What programs do you offer?
A: We offer youth boxing, adult boxing, non-contact fitness boxing, sparring, competition team training, personal training, and more.
Q4: Are your coaches certified?
A: Yes. All coaches are USA Boxing certified, CPR/First Aid certified, and hold strength & conditioning certifications.
Q5: How do you ensure safety in the gym?
A: Our head coach is always in the ring supervising to ensure no one gets hurt. We are fully insured under USA Boxing. Sparring is closely monitored, and all safety gear is required.
Q6: Do you have female-only classes?
A: Yes. While most classes are co-ed, we do offer female-only classes.
Q7: What are the age requirements?
A: The minimum age to join is 7 years old. Classes are separated into kids, teens, and adult groups.
Q8: What are your class times?
A: Our schedule is posted online at www.savageboxingacademy.com. Most classes begin at 4:30 PM, 6:30 PM, and 7:30 PM. We are open six days a week. We also have 6am classes.
Q9: How do I sign up?
A: All memberships are handled through our website. We do not offer free trials, but anyone is welcome to stop by and watch a class.
Q10: Where are you located and is there parking?
A: We’re located at 5913 Loftis Rd., Hanahan, SC 29410, and we have on-site parking.
Q11: Do I need my own equipment?
A: Members must purchase their own gloves but can borrow for up to two weeks when starting. Loaning gloves is limited for sanitary reasons. We provide free hand wraps upon sign-up, plus a 30-minute one-on-one orientation to cover boxing stance and basic punches.
Q12: Do you host boxing events?
A: Yes! We host 8–10 amateur boxing events per year, and sparring sessions are held twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays, plus some Saturdays.
